Recovery From the Inside Out: 4 Therapies That Heal the Body & Soul Together at Country Road

Recovery is more than just stopping the use of drugs and alcohol. It’s about healing from the inside out. Oklahoma City treatment program, Country Road Recovery shares 4 of their therapies that help restore the mind, body, and spirit.

The first time I went to treatment I thought I just had a problem with drugs and alcohol. I partied a little too frequently and developed a physical dependence to substances so the remedy was simply to dry out a bit. Unfortunately, when I started to sober up, I was hit square in the mouth with all the mental, emotional, and spiritual damage I’d suffered (and caused) throughout my life. Addiction is a disease that has roots far deeper than the physical realm. At Country Road, we believe in a holistic approach that heals the body, mind, and soul together. Our comprehensive treatment programs are designed to support individuals through dual-diagnosis treatment and various therapeutic modalities, ensuring a balanced path to recovery.

The Importance of Dual-Diagnosis Treatment

Meeting an alcoholic or addict that only struggles with substance abuse and has no mental health or trauma is like meeting a unicorn. It’s why dual-diagnosis treatment is so essential. For those that suffer from both substance use disorder and co-occurring mental health conditions like depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, or PTSD, treatment plans that address both simultaneously are a must.

At Country Road, our dual-diagnosis treatment approach ensures that both the addiction and the mental health disorder are treated simultaneously. When we address these interconnected issues, we provide a more comprehensive and effective treatment plan, promoting long-term recovery and well-being.

Gender-Specific Processing Groups: A Safe Space for Healing

Addiction and recovery are both deeply personal experiences and gender-specific processing groups offer a safe, supportive environment where every person can share their experiences without fear of judgment. We get that men and women face different societal pressures and challenges and may have had different experiences in active addiction, which can impact their journey to sobriety.

Our gender-specific processing groups are facilitated by trained clinicians who understand the unique needs of each gender. These groups encourage open communication, foster mutual support, and help individuals build stronger, healthier relationships. When we address gender-specific issues, we help you to gain deeper insights into your addiction and develop tailored coping strategies just for you.

Trauma-Informed Care & EMDR: Healing Deep Wounds

Most of us have some form of trauma whether we are aware of it or not. Whether it’s big T or little t trauma, it’s still trauma. That’s why we believe trauma-informed care is a critical component of effective addiction treatment. This approach ensures that treatment is delivered in a manner that is sensitive to past traumas and does not inadvertently re-traumatize you.

We’re big fans of Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) as a powerful therapy used to help process and heal from traumatic experiences. EMDR uses bilateral stimulation, such as eye movements or tapping, to help reprocess traumatic memories, reducing their emotional charge. We use it to help individuals integrate these experiences into their broader life narrative, decreasing the likelihood of using substances to cope with trauma-related distress.

Equine Therapy: Building Trust & Connection

Horses are awesome. That’s just a fact. Country Road is big on equine therapy not just because horses are so cool but because their use in equine therapy is an innovative and experiential form of therapy. This approach is beneficial for people in recovery as it helps build trust, improve emotional regulation, and enhance self-awareness.

At Country Road, equine therapy sessions allow you to connect with horses in a serene and supportive environment. Horses are intuitive animals that respond to human emotions, providing immediate feedback to individuals. This interaction helps participants develop non-verbal communication skills, increase self-confidence, and learn to establish healthy boundaries. The bond formed with these gentle creatures can be profoundly healing, offering a unique pathway to recovery.

DBT & CBT: Foundations for Lasting Change

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) are evidence-based therapies that form the cornerstone of our treatment programs at Country Road. These therapies are highly effective in treating substance use disorders and co-occurring mental health conditions.

DBT teaches individuals skills to manage distress, regulate emotions, and improve interpersonal relationships. We incorporate these skills into your treatment plan to help you better cope with triggers and stress which could lead to a relapse.

CBT, on the other hand, is all about identifying and changing negative thought patterns and behaviors associated with addiction. When you can address these cognitive distortions in real time, you can develop healthier coping mechanisms and reduce the risk of relapse.
