Many facilities will also offer life skills classes to help people. These are programs that might teach a new hobby, but they can also teach skills such as balancing a checkbook or creating a resume so that way when a patient returns to the traditional world, they are armed with the needed experience to avoid a life of drugs or alcohol.
But at the end of the day, a patient in an IOP for drugs or alcohol can return home. These programs are great for people who can not miss a work shift or have a family to care for. An IOP lets someone get the treatment they need while not needing to completely leave the traditional world.
